6/6/12.
Five years ago my husband woke up with an odd pain in his side and went to work. By that evening, the pain was so great he was admitted to the ER where they administered a morphine dose.
Within seconds, his heart rate plummeted almost to flat-line. We were watching him slip away from this world and the only thing we could do was call his name.
He responded.
It ain’t over ’till it’s over.
Stabilized, but without a diagnosis there was nothing to do but pray. We just knew his story wasn’t meant to end so soon.
It ain’t over ’till it’s over.
Eventually they learned his lungs were full of blood clots (multiple pulmonary embolisms).
The doctors were stunned because apparently, blood clots usually cause sudden death. The pain was from a pleural effusion caused by the buildup of fluid from the clots and usually doesn’t happen. Without the pain he probably would have died in his sleep that night.
Yet he survived.
It ain’t over ’tis it’s over.
The doctors never determined what caused the clots, as there was no injury/ trauma/ poor circulation/ blood disorder. After a year on blood thinners he never had another incident.
His story definitely didn’t end.
As it turns out, a year-ish later he proposed and a year-ish later we were married. A year-ish later we are parents.
It ain’t over ’till it’s over.
Hang in there.
Such a beautiful family. Love you all.
